During March Madness is when NCAA college basketball teams compete in the “big dance” NCAA tournaments. 68 teams all compete for the NCAA National Championship Title. This is a time of exciting highlights and big upsets, hyping up fans around the country- hence the madness in the term March Madness.

To intensify the fun of March Madness there are bracket challenges for fans. Brackets are used to see if fans can correctly predict the outcome of tournament games. Before the games begin you select all your winners, making watching the game more fun as you hope the team you select advances.

This March Dr. Bailey wants you to join in on the madness. We’re inviting all of our patients to join our CBS Sports Bracket Manager group for the 2015 NCAA Basketball Tournament! To accept this invitation and join the group, click the link below (or cut and paste the link into your browser's address bar). It will take you to the registration page where you will create a free account, if you don't already have one.

Each round points are awarded for correct selections, so the more games you predict correctly, the more points you receive. The further into the tournament the higher the points. So even if you do not predict the final two teams, you still have a chance to win! In the case of a tie, the Championship game score will determine the winner, so make sure you fill that out too.

5 Tips for Children's Dental Health #NCDHM

It’s still February so and you know what that means… IT’S STILL NATIONAL CHILDREN’S DENTAL HEALTH MONTH and dental professional all over the world are promoting health oral hygiene habits for children.

National Children’s Dental Health Month (NCDHM) began as a one-day event in Cleveland, Ohio, on February 3, 1941. The American Dental Association held the first national observance of Children’s Dental Health Day on February 8, 1949. The single day observance became a week-long event in 1955. In 1981, the program was extended to a month-long observance known today as National Children’s Dental Health Month. Since 1941, the observance has grown from a two-city event into a nationwide program. NCDHM messages reach thousands of people in communities across the country and at numerous armed services bases. Local observances often include displays of posters provided by the ADA, coloring and essay contests, health fairs, free dental screenings, museum exhibits, classroom presentations by dentists and other members of the dental team, and dental office tours. When good habits are developed early on it is more likely that the child will able to look forward to a lifetime of health teeth gums. Here are 5 healthy tips for children's dental health.

Brush and floss: Brushing and flossing is essential all that all ages, but good habits start early. Your child should be brushing twice a day to remove plaque, bacteria and food particles in their mouth. Also flossing two a day to remove anything left behind after brushing.

Visit the dentist regularly: Visiting the dentist every 6 months, twice a year is important. Even if your child is under orthodontic treatment and make all scheduled appointments with Dr. Bailey, while visiting the dentist they check for your cavities and make sure teeth are healthy.

Drink water: Make sure that your children's drinking water is fluoridated, fluoride is a natural mineral found in water and Earth's crust. Helps prevent cavities by hardening the enamel.

Eat well balanced meals: Eat a well-balanced diet that limits starchy or sugary foods, which produce plaque acids that cause tooth decay.

Early intervention: The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that the initial orthodontic evaluation should occur at the first sign of orthodontic problems or no later than age 7. At this early age, orthodontic treatment may not be necessary, but vigilant examination can anticipate the most advantageous time to begin treatment.

At Bailey Orthodontics we are constantly promoting healthy teeth and habits for all of our patients, especially our younger patients. We strive to provide the best care for your child and help create good habits. Please visit ADA.org National Children’s Dental Health Month For more information.

National Children's Dental Health Month

For many years every February has been used to raise awareness, not about love and chocolate, but about the dental health of children.

National Children’s Dental Health Month is sponsored by the ADA (American Dental Association) which promotes creating lifelong healthy habits starting at an early age. When good habits are developed early it is more likely that the child will able to look forward to a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums. It is very important that parents know that a balanced diet, limiting snacks, brushing and flossing are key to healthy teeth and avoiding cavities. Along with healthy habits, regular dental appointments will help you keep your child on track.

This year's NCDHM campaign slogan "Defeat Monster Mouth" is displayed on the eye-catching children's posters that feature the McGrinn Twins, Flossy and Buck, along with their best friends and next-door neighbors, Den and Gen Smiley and K-9 the dog.  They are fighting to defeat Plaqster the Monster for good oral health.

For more information about National Children’s Dental Health Month please visit Ada.org.

Remember, 7 is the magic number for orthodontic care. By the age of 7, the first adult molars erupt, establishing the back bite. During this time, Dr. Bailey can evaluate front-to-back and side-to-side tooth relationships. For example, the presence of erupting incisors can indicate possible overbite, open bite, crowding or gummy smiles. Timely screening increases the chances for an incredible smile.

Don't worry if your child is older than seven it's not too late for a check-up, especially if you or your family dentist notice a problem. However, the earlier you detect oral problems now and later treatment can be shorter and less involved. Have any questions about early intervention or want to bring your child in for a consultation? Give us a call today.
